FACT SHEETFounded in 1952, the NSNA is a nonprofit organization for students enrolled in associate, baccalaureate, diploma, and generic graduate nursing programs. It is dedicated to fostering the professional development of nursing students. Membership 50,000 nursing students in 50 states, the District of Columbia , Guam, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. NSNA Mission Statement

Publications
Organization The NSNA Board of Directors is composed of ten nursing students elected to serve for one year. Two consultants provide guidance (without a vote) and are appointed by the American Nurses Association and the National League for Nursing. Students are also elected to serve on the Nominating and Elections Committee. A House of Delegates meet annually to elect officers and to debate issues relevant to nursing education and practice. Delegates come from 700 schools and state NSNA chapters. National staff provides administrative support. Annual Convention Each year, over 3,000 nursing students gather in a major city to attend educational programs, participate in leadership and professional development activities, attend an Awards Ceremony, Keynote Address, Plenary Sessions, Fundraising Auction, and Exhibits. The House of Delegates meets during the Annual Convention. The 2009 Convention takes place in Nashville, Tennessee, April 15-19. MidYear Career Planning Conference This annual event attracts 1,500 nursing students. The conference offers professional development activities, career counseling, exhibits, a state board review, Keynote Address, Specialty Nursing Career Panels and career development workshops. The 2008 MidYear Conference takes place in John Ascuaga’s Nugget Casino Resort, Reno, Nevada, November 13-16, 2008. The Foundation of the National Student Nurses' Association (FNSNA) The F NSNA was created in memory of Frances Tompkins, the association's first executive director. As a non-profit corporation (501 C-3), the F NSNA is organized exclusively for charitable and educational purposes. The F NSNA has distributed over 2 million dollars in scholarships for undergraduate nursing education. The Promise of Nursing Regional Scholarship Program, administered by the FNSNA, provides undergraduate and graduate nursing scholarships and school grants. Funds are raised by regional events sponsored by Johnson & Johnson. Administration and Finances The NSNA is a non-profit (501 C-6) corporation. New members dues are $20.00 and renewing members pay $30.00(plus state dues). The executive director is Diane J. Mancino EdD, RN, CAE.
