A Message from Lauren Earnshaw, Chair Community Health/Disaster Preparedness Committee
I hope you all enjoyed your time off, and got some rest and relaxation over the holidays. Also, congratulations to December graduates! 2016 was a busy year with a successful Summer Leadership Conference and MidYear Career Planning Conference in Kansas City, Missouri. I had so much fun interacting with all of you at the conferences and on social media. Also, it has been a privilege to meet many of you at the state conventions and I have been thoroughly impressed with the work you do and the impact you have on the school, state, and national level. Keep up the good work and please do not hesitate to contact me if I can be of any assistance. With the 65th Annual Convention coming up in a few short months, I want to encourage you to start planning early, so I have included a few reminders about the convention.
Convention 2017 The Community Health/Disaster Planning Committee is happy to announce that the American Red Cross will once again partner with NSNA and have 2 sessions on “Disaster Health and Sheltering.” Reminder pre-registration and pre-course work needs to be done prior to the convention. Registration fills up fast on these classes. To register, please go to www.disasterhealthandsheltering.org
Delete Blood Cancer will be available to register you for the bone marrow donor registry.
NSNA has partnered with the ANA/CDC to offer a two-hour course on Saturday that will focus on Infection Control.
Awards One of great things the Community Health and Disaster Preparedness committee has the privilege of doing each year is recognizing the hard work that students do on Community Health and Disaster Preparedness projects. I am amazed at some of the projects being done in the school and state chapters. Every nursing student has done things worthy of an award, whether it is a health fair, community outreach event, or disaster relief work. To apply for an award, visit Awards Booklet and fill out the necessary forms needed.
I look forward to meeting you at the Annual Convention in Dallas. I will be having a workshop on Community Health and Disaster Preparedness on Wednesday, April 5th, from 12:00pm – 1:00pm and look forward to seeing you there. I would also love to hear about your projects from NSNA’s National Week of Service! If there is anything I can do for you, please contact me. Read More...
