Hello nursing students! I hope everyone had a relaxing winter break and has returned to school refreshed and ready to continue as a future nurse.

I was happy to have met many of you at Midyear Conference in Phoenix. It was refreshing to see so many passionate and committed individuals. We made an exciting announcement at Midyear about our work with the American Red Cross. We have been collaborating with the Red Cross to develop a standardized disaster training program for student nurses. We will be rolling out this innovative program at the Annual Convention in Orlando, and pre-registered convention attendees will be the first to participate in this program on April 7, from 8:00 am – 11:45 am! Interested students must pre-register to attend this Red Cross program by emailing their name, school, mailing address, email, and NSNA membership number to nsna@nsna.org with 2010 Red Cross Certification Program in the subject line. NSNA student members who complete the training will receive a specially designed pin and certificate detailing their achievement. Space is limited, so send your email to pre-register today.

Don’t forget to submit projects for an award at the 58th Annual NSNA Convention, April 7-11, 2010. The deadline for receipt of Disaster Preparedness Award applications is March 19. Consult the Awards and Honors Booklet (page 9, 18-19)), which can be found on the website here: http://www.nsna.org/Portals/0/Skins/NSNA/pdf/pubs_awards_booklet_2010.pdf. Also, bring your constituency application to Annual Convention. The deadline to apply for constituency status is April 23. Here is the link to the application: http://www.nsna.org/Portals/0/Skins/NSNA/pdf/ConstituencyApplication.pdf.

Make plans now to attend NSNA’s 58th Annual Convention. Convention information is now posted online at http://www.nsna.org/Portals/0/Skins/NSNA/pdf/pubs_awards_booklet_2010.pdf. I look forward to seeing each and everyone of you there! This is an exciting time in healthcare, and you won’t want to miss any of the exciting programs and sessions being offered this year.

As always, if you have any comments, suggestions, or questions, feel free to contact me at vicepresident@nsna.org. I look forward to seeing everyone in Orlando!
