Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses
The Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses (AMSN) is the only specialty nursing organization dedicated to the practice of medical-surgical nursing. Its mission is to promote excellence in medical-surgical nursing.
AMSN is a vibrant community of approximately 10,000 medical-surgical nurses who care about improving patient care, developing personally and professionally, advocating for the specialty of medical-surgical nursing, and connecting with others who share their compassion and commitment. Academy of Neonatal Nursing
The mission of the Academy is to provide quality neonatal education and programs at a reasonable cost to all health care professionals. American Academy of Nursing
The American Academy of Nursing comprises nursing leaders in practice, education, research, management, and policy making. American Assembly of Men in Nursing

American Association for the History of Nursing (AAHN)
American Association for the History of Nursing is a professional organization open to everyone interested in the history of nursing. The organization's purposes are to: (1) stimulate national and international interest in the history of nursing, promote collaboration among its supporters, and encourage research in the history of nursing; (2) Promote the development of centers for the preservation and use of materials of historical importance to nursing; (3) Serve as a resource for information related to nursing history; (4) Produce and distribute materials related to the history and heritage of the nursing profession.

American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN)
AACN is a national association for America's baccalaureate-and higher-degree nursing education programs. AACN's educational, research, governmental advocacy, data collection, publications, and other programs work to establish quality standards for bachelor's- and graduate-degree nursing education; assist deans and directors to implement those standards; influence the nursing profession to improve health care, and promote public support of baccalaureate and graduate education, research, and practice in nursing. American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN)

American Association of Neuroscience Nurses

American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA)
The AANA is the professional association representing CRNAs nationwide. American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM)
The ACNM provides research, accredits nurse-midwifery education programs, administers and promotes continuing education programs, establishes clinical practice standards, creates liaisons with state and federal agencies and members of Congress. The mission of ACNM is to develop and support the profession in order to promote the health and well-being of women and infants within their families and communities. American Holistic Nurses' Association (AHNA)

American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) AMIA is an association in the United States dedicated to the development and application of medical informatics in the support of patient care, teaching, research, and health care administration. American Nephrology Nursing Association (ANNA) ANNA's stated mission statement is to advance the professional development of registerd nurses practicing in nephrology transplantation and related therapies to promte the highest standards of patient care. American Nurses Association (ANA) ANA advances the nursing profession by fostering high standards of nursing practice, promoting the economic and general welfare of nurses in the workplace, projecting a positive and realistic view of nursing, and by lobbying the Congress and regulatory agencies on health care issues affecting nurses and the public. American Nursing Informatics Association (ANIA)
The American Nursing Informatics Association (ANIA) promotes nursing informatics through networking, education, research, and professional activities.

American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA) This source has information regarding the association and its goals while also providing general psychiatric, mental-health nursing resources such as the APNA Journal, mental health consumers' guides, and links to other related Web sites.

American Red Cross
The American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization led by volunteers and guided by its Congressional Charter and the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross Movement, will provide relief to victims of disasters and help people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies.

American Society of PeriAnesthesia Nurses (ASPAN) ASPAN is the professional specialty nursing organization representing nurses practicing in all phases of ambulatory surgery, preanesthesia and postanesthesia care. Association of Rehabilitation Nursing (ARN) ARN is an organization uniting rehabilitation nurses who care for individuals with chronic illness or physical disability. Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) The Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit membership organization that promotes the health of women and newborns. AWHONN’s mission is to improve and promote the health of women and newborns and to strengthen the nursing profession through the delivery of superior advocacy, research, education and other professional and clinical resources to nurses and other health care professional.

Colorado Nurses Association (CNA) The Colorado Nurses' Association is a professional organization of registered nurses in Colorado. It is a constituent of the American Nurses' Association. The primary purpose of this association is to provide direction and a voice for the profession of nursing and nurses as leaders in health care. The Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS)
CGFNS operates programs that evaluate the education and licensure of internationally-educated nurses and other health care professionals who wish to practice in the U.S. The CGFNS Certification Program includes a credentials evaluation, a test of nursing knowledge that is administered twice a year throughout the world, and an English language proficiency examination. The Credentials Evaluation Service provides a report that analyzes the international education and licensure of applicants in terms of U.S. comparability.

Connecticut Nurses Association
The Connecticut Nurses' Association works for the improvement of health standards and availability of health care services for all people, high standards for nursing, the professional development of nurses, and the advancement of their economic and general welfare. Gay and Lesbian Medical Association (GLMA) GLMA's mission is to ensure equality in health care for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals and health care providers. Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association (HPNA)
An international professional association with the mission of promoting excellence in hospice and palliative nursing.

Michigan Association of Nurse Anesthetists (MANA)

The purpose of the Michigan Association of Nurse Anesthetists to promote safe anesthesia care through advancement of the art and science of anesthesiology and to advocate CRNAs as high quality anesthesia providers.

Michigan League for Nursing (MLN)

Since 1952, The Michigan League for Nursing (MLN) has provided members the resources they need for professional and personal growth. Today, MLN is comprised of over 1,000 individual nurses, health care professionals, and consumers and over 125 health care agencies.

National Nursing Staff Development Organization (NNSDO)
NNSDO exists to: foster the art and science of nursing staff development; promote the image and professional status of nursing staff development educators; encourage and support nursing research and application of research findings in practice; and provide a platform for nurses engaged in staff development practice to discuss issues and make decisions related to the continuing evolution of the field of nursing staff development. New Jersey State Nurses Association
The New Jersey State Nurses Associaton (NJSNA), a federation member of the American Nurses Association, is organized for individual professional nurse members through its regions to participate in activities for the advancement of nurses and nursing and to promote the profession as an essential, independent and distinct social service.


Nurse Practitioner Association for Continuing Education (NPACE) NPACE is an organization that seeks to contribute to the improvement of healthcare in the US through strengthening and supporting qualified nurse practitioners and other nurses in advanced practice. Aboriginal Nurses Association of Canada ANAC is a non-governmental, non-profit organization whose membership works mainly in First Nations Communities. An affiliate group of the Canadian Nurses Association, it is the only Aboriginal professional nursing organization in Canada. Links to: background, membership, publications, announcements.

Canadian Association of Critical Care Nurses The Canadian Association of Critical Care Nurses is a non-profit, specialty organization dedicated to maintaining and enhancing the quality of care provided to critically ill patients and their families. Canadian Nursing Students Association The Canadian Nursing Students' Association (CNSA) is the national voice of Canadian nursing students. Their goal is to increase the legal, ethical, professional, and educational aspects which are an integral part of nursing. CNSA is actively dedicated to the positive promotion of nurses and the nursing profession as a whole.

Canadian Intravenous Nurses Association The Canadian Intravenous Nurses Association is an association which unites all nurses initiating and maintaining I.V.'s. Site information includes: meetings, objectives, membership, benefits, award/incentive programs, and courses.

International Council of Nurses The International Council of Nurses (ICN), established in 1899, is a federation of national nursing organizations. Over 120 member nations belong to the ICN Council of National Representatives. The quadrennial ICN Congress includes a student assembly. The NSNA President is the official representative of U.S. nursing students at the student assembly. The next Congress takes place in Copenhagen, Denmark, June 10 - 15, 2001.

Royal College of Nursing (RCN) The RCN is a professional union of nurses. It's run by nurses for nurses. The RCN is a major contributor to the development of nursing practice and standards of care, is a provider of higher education through the RCN Institute and is a registered charity.
